Matt is an
older prospect (25) who played minor league baseball in the Chicago Cubs
organization as a catcher. But, he was able to win a National Championship
at Louisiana State this past season.Mauck
played minor-league baseball for three years after graduating from Jasper
High School in Indiana. When he came to Louisiana State University in 2000,
he informed Saban that he only planned to stick around until he graduated.
Mauck
finished his career with an 18-2 record as a starter, the best winning
percentage in school history, even though he missed the second half of his
sophomore season because of torn ligaments in his right foot.
Matt
Mauck should be the MVP of the offense and should lead the Tigers back into
SEC West contention. Mauck was injured in a rout against Florida, and must
now defeat Marcus Randall for the starting job. However, Mauck appears to be
100% and ready to go. With receivers Michael Clayton and Devery Henderson
returning, Mauck should put up huge stats.
Matt
has good accuracy on all levels, but really struggles when he is pressured.
He leads his receivers on short throws and can throw the ball down the field
with some accuracy. He shows better than average touch as he understands
how much he needs to put on his throws. His field vision is average, but he
worked better out of the shotgun where he could see the entire field and had
more time to work. Matt does see the whole field, but is slow to make his
progressions. Matt is a good athlete that can move outside of the pocket.
He is smart and knows when to slide as well. |
