A
player that combines excellence on the field and in the classroom, as he
was named second-team Academic All-American in 2003 … Graduated in
December 2003 with a degree in kinesiology … Has mastered the art of
scrambling to avoid the rush … Exactly what you want in a quarterback —
he's tough, smart and talented … Makes good decisions on the field and
has good size, a strong arm and quick feet … Is not going to be chased
down by a defender and is not afraid to tuck the ball and run … Led the
Tigers to an 18-2 overall record as the starting quarterback … His .900
winning percentage mark is the best winning percentage for a quarterback
in school history … Finished his career with 3,831 passing yards,
completing 310 of 529 passes for 37 touchdowns and only 18 interceptions
while rushing for 345 yards and five scores … Ranked third in school
history in touchdown passes (37) and completion percentage (58.6), sixth
in pass completion (310), seventh in attempts (529) and eighth in
passing yards (3,831). |
BIO:
Second team all-conference selection last year when he helped lead LSU
to a share of the national championship with passing numbers of 64
percent/2,825/28/14. Tore ligaments in his right foot after six games of
his sophomore campaign and totaled 49.9 percent/782/9/2. Academic All
American who graduated last December with a degree in kinesiology.
ANALYSIS: Mauck has a lot of skills
to work with and enough abilities to be a successful quarterback at the
next level. Yet his limited playing experience leaves him unpolished in
the nuances of being a passer. Could be a developmental prospect that
spends a year in Europe, although he could forego a career in football
and end up in dental school.
PROJECTION: Late Sixth Round
